Bad Client Report- My Experience with PayPal and Jerry Bob Turner (Client)
A client of mine from France contacted me about spending the weekend with me in NYC. He sent me $3,000 upfront through PayPal.
A week later, he informed me that he was unable to make the trip due to an emergency and requested a $2,500 refund. I went to my PayPal account, searched for his name, entered the amount, and pressed send. To my surprise, the money was accidentally sent to Jerry Bob Turner instead.
I called PayPal immediately, and they submitted a dispute. They informed me that if the recipient didn't respond within seven days, I would receive a refund. In the meantime, I looked up Jerry's email address and discovered that he was actually a client of mine from Humble, Texas, whom I met in 2019.
I spoke to PayPal a few times, but they were not very helpful. After seven days, I received an email stating that the dispute was declined because it was sent through the "Friends and Family" option.
It was time to reach out to Jerry and politely ask him to return the $2,500. During our first appointment, he asked me if he could pay by credit card. I agreed and provided him with my PayPal information, which has remained the same since then.
I wrote Jerry a nice email from my Gmail account, which is linked to my PayPal. He actually contacted me a few hours later through a third-party messaging system, claiming there was a scam involved. I quickly clarified that it was not a scam.
The first red flag was that he no longer replied through the messaging system. The next day, I called Jerry, and he answered. We had a pleasant conversation, during which he mentioned that he had contacted his attorney and believed it was a scam.
Again, Jerry has my $2,500 in his account; it is not a scam. We had a nice conversation over the phone, during which Jerry said he would look into the issue and assured me he would return the amount, as it doesn’t belong to him. However, ever since that conversation, Jerry has gone silent and has not returned the money that was accidentally sent to his PayPal account.
I even took the time to send him screenshots from 2019, showing that I provided the same PayPal information to demonstrate that this is not a scam. After doing some research, I found out, and he even mentioned during our call that he hasn’t been very active with providers since 2021 because of his financial situation- Is that a reason to steal $2,500 from an upscale provider?
